Plagiarism Policy

Journal Trias Criminologica: Studies in Criminal Law, Criminology, and Penology upholds academic integrity and strictly prohibits all forms of plagiarism. Every manuscript submitted to the journal must be the author’s original work, free from plagiarism, duplication, or data manipulation.

Before entering the peer-review process, all manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software (such as Turnitin or iThenticate) by the editorial team. The acceptable similarity index threshold is 25%.

If a manuscript exceeds this limit, it will be returned to the author for revision or rejected outright, depending on the editor’s decision.

Unacceptable Forms of Plagiarism Include:

  1. Direct plagiarism: copying another person’s work verbatim without proper citation.
  2. Indirect plagiarism (paraphrasing without attribution): rewording others’ ideas without giving credit.
  3. Self-plagiarism: reusing substantial parts of one’s previously published work without acknowledgment.
  4. Mosaic plagiarism: combining multiple uncited sources to create a new text.
  5. Data or figure plagiarism: using data, tables, or figures without permission or proper citation.

If plagiarism is detected after publication, the editorial board will conduct an internal investigation. Proven cases will result in article retraction and an official notice on the journal’s website. Authors found guilty of ethical misconduct may face a publication ban in the future.

This policy is consistent with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) standards and reflects the journal’s commitment to honesty and scholarly credibility.
